President
Bob King is the founder and president of Good Company Associates. King has provided visionary leadership on state and local policy in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy since 1972. King founded Good Company Associates in 1991 and the firm has played an important role in the evolution of efficiency and renewables policy, including performance contracting, renewable portfolio standards, utility efficiency rebate and incentive programs, state and local government efficiency programs, advanced meter infrastructure and “smart energy technology.”
Under King’s leadership, Good Company also provides insightful business development support and assistance to emerging new clean energy technology companies, or companies wishing to offer new clean energy products and services.Previous to Good Company Associates, King served as a Vice President of Resource Management International, now Navigant Consulting, and regional director of KENETECH Corporation. King also had a 20-year career in government service, including positions such as the first director of renewable energy programs for the Tennessee Valley Authority, and as an energy policy advisor to the Chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, the Lt. Governor of Texas, and to the Governor of Texas. He created and directed an Office of Natural Resources for the Texas Agriculture Commissioner. He was also an advisor to the Governor of California, serving as the director of the Governor's SolarCal Council, and the Local Government Commission on Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy, and provided staff support and facilitation for a California Public Utility Commission Citizen’s Advisory Committee.
King was the founder of the Texas Solar Energy Society in 1977, and the Texas Renewable Energy Industry Association in 1983, the California Wind Energy Association in 1982 and the Agricultural Gas Users Association in 1985. He was Chairman of the CalSEAL (Solar Energy Assurance Labeling) program in 1983. King was a member of the Texas Governor's Sustainable Energy Development Commission, and the State Energy Conservation Office Advisory Committee. Good Company was the coordinating contractor for the Texas LoanSTAR energy efficiency loan program statewide. He helped establish the Texas Consortium for Advanced Fuel Cell Research, and Fuel Cells Texas, a non-profit trade association, as well as, Efficiency Texas.
King is a graduate of Vanderbilt University’s Engineering School, and the University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs. He is a registered engineer. King is a board member of the Gulf Coast Power Association and the National Peak Load Management Alliance, and a member of the Association of Energy Service Professionals and the Association of Energy Engineers. He is also a member of the Central Texas Sustainable Indicators Project and Chairman of the Council on At-Risk Youth.
