Michael Hathaway

Michael Hathaway expands the expertise at Good Company Associates in Smart Grid Technologies and Information and Transactional Infrastructure. He has a diverse range of expertise in embedded systems, data communications, telecommunications and information technology infrastructure.  

Hathaway started his career in the consumer electronics market, developing digital audio products at Lexicon. Hathaway was involved in first generation network switch development where he developed Ethernet and ATM network switches at Xedia Corporation (acquired by Lucent), and Ascom Nexion (acquired by Fujitsu). In his role as system architect at BBN Research and Technology he spearheaded research in high end network routers for the DARPA funded MGR project and was instrumental in the commercialization of this technology and its resulting acquisition by NEC.  

In 1997, Hathaway co-founded IronBridge Networks, a terabit router startup that developed a carrier grade, terabit network router. Hathaway arrived in Austin, Texas in 2000 to take the role of Chief Technical Officer for the network processor startup Agere, which was acquired by Lucent. He became a venture partner at Austin Venture, advising early stage companies on system architecture and technology/market strategy. In 2003 he established Pico Innovations, a technology integrator and consulting company. He performed investment diligence services for venture capital firms such as Austin Ventures, TL Ventures and Granite Ventures. NetEffect, Mobile Campus, Calpont Corporation, Silverbeech Networks and Clearcube, are among those Hathaway assisted in fundraising, intellectual property development, product architecture and corporate strategy.  

Hathaway attended Berklee College of Music and Harvard University where he studied electronic music technology and mathematics.
