Research and Analysis: Good Company provides in-depth research and analytical support to a variety of companies. We researched and submitted a detailed and comprehensive assessment of the energy efficiency programs and the value of efficiency to Texas ratepayers to the Public Utility Commission of Texas. We evaluated demand response opportunities for competitive electric retailers and developed comprehensive reports on demand response programs in CAISO, PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE and ERCOT, including up-to-date reports on energy efficiency incentives and demand response programs.
Tools developed include an electronic directory of demand response firm’s nationwide and interactive models to calculate the value of demand response and / or incentives in each of the nation’s ISO markets. We also designed a statewide demand response pilot program for the Center for Commercialization of Electric Technologies. We helped the distributed generation industry develop consensus emissions reductions targets for Texas, including a number of emission reduction strategies. We prepared a report for one retail electric provider on utility rates in the restructured market, identifying the size of 'headroom' or 'shopping credits’, two years ahead of competition in ERCOT.
Policy Development: Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, Renewable Energy, and Alternative Fuel technologies and services are greatly impacted by public policy. Good Company Associates has a successful history of effectively working with diverse groups of stakeholders to build coalitions, find consensus, and craft innovative public initiatives and policies. We are coordinating the Texas bid for the new National Large Wind Turbine Research and Testing facility and have helped the statewide coalition make it to the final round of competition. We support and represent Efficiency Texas, a coalition that includes commercial building owners, retailers, churches, environmental organizations, citizen groups and small businesses.
The Efficiency Texas coalition represents over 40,000 retail stores, more than four million individuals and nearly one billion square feet of building and office space. Working with this coalition, we helped develop a broad consensus among not only its membership, but among utilities and competitive retailers and other market participants, to greatly improve and expand the energy efficiency programs managed by Texas’s transmission and distribution utilities.
We also represent the Demand Response Coalition and are currently helping to educate public officials about the benefits increased demand response could bring to competitive electric markets. Through our involvement with a wind coalition, Texas adopted its first Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) in 1999. Finally, we identified creative alternatives for cities and counties to contribute to energy efficiency and reduce air emissions.
Business Development: Good Company Associates provides direct entrepreneurial services to growing businesses, specifically energy services and demand response companies. We have helped clients win utility contracts for energy efficiency and demand response programs. We help international retail electric providers learn how to use efficiency and demand response programs to profitably serve the needs of C&I and residential customers.
We were behind the first commercial-scale wind farm in Texas in 1993, and have landed multiple power purchase agreements and local tax abatements for renewable developers. We helped a demand response company win a municipal utility contract to pilot a new remote meter reading and controls system. We have developed market leads for industrial waste heat recovery projects, electric and thermal storage, and energy efficiency performance contracts. We provide market development advice and support to a variety of service providers and project developers, and continuously alert our clients to new business opportunities as they arise. We help companies capitalize on available incentives, grants and funding opportunities.
