Demand Response
2007 Demand Response Pilot
Good Company provided the design and planning support for a Residential Demand Response Pilot program being funded through the Center for Commercialization of Electric Technologies (CCET). As a result of our interaction with the members of CCET, Oncor and CenterPoint utilities will host pilot demonstrations in Dallas and Houston, Texas respectively. American Electric Power will also participate and contribute to the pilot, but will not host a demonstration site.
The Demand Response Pilot will include 500 homes in each of the Oncor and CenterPoint service areas, making use of their expanding Broadband over Power Line (BPL) systems. Each home will have one or more IP addressable, 2-way communicating display thermostats, and/or appliance switches, to control HVAC systems, pool pumps or water heaters. Homeowners will also have in-home display capability on the thermostats and/or via the internet which include real-time consumption information.
Participating retail electric providers participating include Direct Energy, Reliant Energy and TXU Energy. The CenterPoint (Houston) project will use the two-way communication capability of the utility’s ITRON Open-Way system and Comverge control systems and operational services. The Oncor (D/FW) area project will use the Current Communications system, in conjunction with Corporate Systems hardware and operations systems, with management services provided by Good Cents Solutions. Each participating retail electric provider will market the program separately.
